VOLO Live in Sedona: Watch the Full Ceremony + Dance Set from humankind

Some nights on Sedona's dance floor are about the DJ. This one was about the whole arc of an evening, and it started two hours before anyone danced. VOLO Live in Sedona at humankind opened with a ceremony, built through an opening set from one of our own, and then gave the room four hours of the world-bass sound VOLO has spent more than a decade shaping. The ceremony first

From 5 to 7 PM the room was a container, not a club. The Ceremony Journey blended sound healing, breath and intention-setting with deep listening, and the point of it was simple: open the heart, clear what is stuck, and get the body ready to move without holding anything back. If you have only ever arrived at an ecstatic dance cold, straight from the parking lot, this is the part that changes the night. The people who danced at midnight had been in the room since five, and it showed.

Alexander Sol sets the tone

At 8 PM the Dance Journey began with Sedona's own Alexander Sol, a boundary-dissolving sound alchemist who played a lush, grounding warm-up. An opening set on a night like this has one job, which is to bring a hundred people from standing to moving without anyone noticing the moment it happened. He did that.

Four hours of VOLO

VOLO, who records as Volovibes, builds sets out of global instrumentation, organic percussion and atmospheric electronic sound design. What that means on a floor is an emotional arc rather than a sequence of tracks. The set moves from grounded downtempo into ecstatic world bass and then into the kind of melodic, euphoric drops that make a whole room lift at once, and then it comes back down so you can breathe before the next climb. With immersive projection visuals and full sub-bass in an intimate room, it is the closest thing Sedona has had to a festival main stage indoors.

His music has lived in yoga flows, ecstatic dances and transformational gatherings around the world, and you can hear why. It is danceable without being aggressive, and it leaves space. That space is where ecstatic dance happens.

Why this sound fits an ecstatic dance floor

Ecstatic dance has no steps and no choreography. The music has to do the guiding. World bass works because it carries rhythm you feel in the hips and texture you feel in the chest, and because a good producer in this style knows how to build a wave and let it break. VOLO's sets are built as journeys, and a journey is exactly what a floor full of people moving with their eyes closed needs.
